List Poem

“Summertime”

By Mya Evans

i long to reunite with the summertime

burning sun rays touching my golden skin

so many events to attend like the drive in

windows down driving to anaheim

cherry and blueberry icees galore

i love to build castles in the sand

laid on brightly colored towels tanned

huddled at the bonfire telling cultural folklore

soaked from water gun fights

enjoying bikini season

celebrating for no reason

roller coasters at insane heights

the wind in my hair as i ride my bike

93 chances

93 days to watch your silly dances

stargazing at midnight feels so dreamlike

vacations on planes and vacations on trains

holding hands while we watch the glowing sky

the sunsets are prettier on the beach in july

it’s the season of the hurricane

drinking lemonade, watch it slip away

pool parties making a splash

water slide whiplash

calm crashing waves on a sunny day

shenanigans done in the moonlight

meticulously curated snacks at the picnic

hear the camera going click click

my brand new denim shorts that are off-white

staying up late just to watch cartoons

birthdays celebrations at the local park

clothes so short you can see my birthmark

treasured friends i won’t see again till next june

dress our fruity drinks with lime

we take pictures of the firework sparks

season pass to water parks

how i long to reunite with the summertime
